Others have added their voices to support the skate park, including Jeff Ament, the bass guitarist for Pearl Jam. An avid skateboarder, he said he has been to the Ballard Bowl at least 15 times.

He lives in Missoula, Mont., now and advocates for skateboard parks there.

"There is just so much frustration with this," he said yesterday. "The community worked so hard together to build this, and so many people use it. It is a shame to tear it down.

"It seems wasteful at a time when cities don't have a lot of money," Ament said.
