The old web site

I have been wondering, it so seems that CRB won't be back on the net. But if you remember, the old site was hosted on anglefire, and it's free (http://www.angelfire.com/la/ament/). And there is still so much stuff on there! Why not go back to that one? Here, I ask Laura, if she still comes here and visit. And also ask for you opinion, you the Jeff fans that come to this BBS. I find it quite sad that Jeff doesn't even a decent site anymore, and with all the action that we forsee in the near future, the web should be ready to amass all the pertinient info, as within a ...website! Laura has been doing a magnificient job and I'm greatful for it all; I wonder if that will be ever topped but, if at least there was one "alive" site.

Speak up, any ideas anyone, this is a community? Something has to be done. What do you think?

Cheers

Ah, at this point, I really don't know what to say, as I feel much like you do about the lack of Jeff sites on the web. But, in Laura's defense, last I knew of her, she was trying to start up a small business of her own. Truthfully, I haven't been in touch with her in a LONG time, so I can't say where here money and energies are being channeled as of late, nor do I really feel comfortable A) Pleading with her in urgency to re-start the site on some way or B) Somehow, potentially, working on starting anything on my own to some extent. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that we still have this Board, but monoxyde, I'd think you would agree with me that it is kind of sad there's no longer a real "one-stop shop" of all things Ament, the way Clouds Roll By used to be. I'd love to maybe even see the angelfire site get an update if it is just a matter of money being the problem for Laura, but really, since she and I haven't spoken in so long, I cannot say where her priorities lie, or if she's even interested in being contributing to the web from a Pearl Jam standpoint anymore. I really, honestly have no idea.

I do think, though, that in our own little tiny way, this community has become better and better at being kind of a "clearing house" of information, what with bringing up links to articles (old and new), creating threads that encompass a lot of topics, being up-to-date with the news, and so on. I was thinking the other day that if there's not gonna be a true website around, maybe those of us here could just create an article thread, a picture thread and so forth, and kind of split things into categories that way (?). Maybe we could form a Yahoo Group or something that would include both a Message Board-type setup and a storage space for files?

I'm no help, am I?

Hello Sarah, hi all,
Thanks for your input and good ideas Sarah, you've done it once more! I wish I knew more web design... If only to keep Laura's work alive. I like your ideas about making this BBS "Jeff Central", well, at least until we have something more "decent", in the sense of a web page, that is of course, if CRB isn't back up on the web. With your idea of starting threads dedicated to specific topics (like articles or pix), we'd be able to manage having more structure. It would actually be very good for the occasional visiter, to be able to browse stuff that would be sorted by topic. So Be It! Until we have CRB running again... I'm wishful ...

I didn't have any news from Laura either for quite a long time now. I guess she must be pretty busy like you say, although I remember her saying, last year after the end of the PJ tour, that she was a bit jadded, I don't know if it "passed"? To tell you the truth, my hopes aren't high. She said that she needed to pay certain fees to get the site running again, if you remember and we offered to pay for them and never heard about it again. Then, it's probably that she's tired of taking care of the site, it IS time-consuming, it might be she's passed PJ/Jeff?!?!?, and she might be totally unable to work on it due to work overload on different personal projects, as you say. I wish her well.

The only big problem that I see with using this BBS as "all things Jeff" is that it's not on the web per se, only those who already have the address of this page come here. At the end, we'll need a site anyway. But let's do that, what you suggested. That goes for everyone on this BBS, of course.

Hi monoxyde,

I don't think I "did it" on any level, but thank you! Those were the only ideas that really came to mind, and of course, it dawned on me that I essentially disregard my own suggestions all the time since I tend to give all articles/news their own threads.

I feel the same way you do about Laura and the future of the site.
