Hey Sarah! Long time! How in hell do you get all that stuff??? Thank you for sharing. I have, among others, a news alert for Jeff with Google, and I didn't get that one you posted here. Gees I WANT to see-hear this! See, neither link you posted work... sad. I did different searches with "easylink" and "playstream" and didn't get anything. Do you have any suggestions?

To bad there isn't much activity at the PJ shop, sadly this board consequentialy suffers from it a little too much to my personal taste.

Did Laura talk-write to you lately? Any news as to what's going to happen with CRB? I wonder why she isn't interested in having the CRB members to help financially with the domain???

I hope you are well and happy. As for me I'll be working as stage tech at a music festival at the end of July, same crew every year, can't wait to see those friends again :), that'll break the monotony of my summer.

Cheers

Wait wait!! Got it! Just needed to upgrade my Quick Time. Can't save the film to disk though...

Amazing! So nice of him to do that interview, he who is so private usually, takes us in the backyard of his "retreat"!!! Beautiful gift, thanks Jeff.

And thanks Sarah :)

Hello monoxyde,

Lovely to hear from you again. I was afraid you'd given up on this place! My apologies for not being around. Things were very busy and I had a family medical situation to take care of which thankfully turned out for the better. Truthfully, I'd been checking in here at least once a week during my "absence", but was reluctant to post as there was no news I thought you and others wouldn't have already found out about, plus I am also wary of posting about "just anything" Jeff-related in case people don't find it interesting. But, if you do think I should post at will and are willing to read/listen to my yammerings, just gimme the word! Hehehe...

Glad to see you got the interview to play. What a treat it was to watch!! Very cool of him to do that interview from the "home base" in Missoula as well, like you said. Between this interview, some pics within the liners to the second Three Fish record, and his 30-second cameo comments in Dogtown and Z-Boys, I actually feel I've seen more of Jeff's place than I'd have ever thought I would! Seems like he's got a great place for himself there.

I don't know about you, but I could definitely go for a mainly-acoustic PJ theatre tour! Truth be told, though I adore their entire catalogue, I personally derive the most enjoyment from their quieter, mid-tempo-and-"down" songs. IMHO, that style is where they're at their best... Not only does the group dynamic shine through, but I think it also at the same time allows for each member's individual talents and contributions to be examined a little more closely. And hey, if Pearl Jam ever does to a theatre tour, perhaps I will be one step closer to my little unrequited dream of seeing Ed and Jeff duet on "Dead Man" in an intimate setting, a la the Bellingham warmup show in 2000 or the Not In Our Name benefit.

Haven't heard anything from Laura, unfortunately, since she posted her update about the site a few months ago.

You're welcome for finding the interview. I knew you (and the folks here) would be pleased by it. Best wishes on the stage tech situation and have a great time.

Lovely to hear from you again too! Yup, you definitely got my OK on this, let yourself loose on your yammerings girl, all to my pleasure! I'll be here! Me! Giving up on this place??? Hey, I still come and check the CRB board every day, or almost, talk about dedication... And please don't apologize for not posting, gees, you contribute SO MUCH to this board and the site! And sorry to hear about the health issues, I'm happy about the positive resolve :)

I thought the Dogtown and the Z-boys pix were from his place in Seattle?!?! It's true, altough this man is reputed for being private-secretive, he has allowed a lot of photographs of his homes, like in Bassplayer mag, the shot of him standing in front of his bookshelves. It truly looks like he's got a very comfy little nest. And didn't I read somewhere that his house in Missoula had a lot of the participation of his girlfriend in designing the interior? Which one would that be? I only know of Pandora (Penny) and the hat designer girl of the early 90's. Would it be her? Or Penny? For how long have they been together anyway? I've been thinking about it today actually, re-reading the liner notes in Ten. See, yesterday I found a used Ten album autographed by the whole band, including Abruzzeze, and there's a Penny in the Ament's thanks. If that's the case, god! 13 years plus together? Wow! I also got Vitalogy on vinyl.

I agree with you that a smaller venue tour, all acoustic, but really acoustic, just mics on the instruments rather that electric-acoustics (acoustic intruments with pick-ups, like Jeff talks about in the interview), would be a delectable treat. But unlike you, what really attracted me (and still does) about PJ is the rock heavy numbers. No band compares to that kind of rock in the whole industry. That all died in the 70's somehow. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, that there are a lot of got hard-rockin' band but, PJ's raw power has no competitors. But it's not that I dislike the slower songs, I love all songs PJ, and Jeff being my favorite song-writer. And like he says in the article, he's really at home on slower tempos, actually, he's absolutely marvelous on 3/4 time signatures. What I missed were the 3F shows, I never saw any. Not that it was not possible for me to go to, I was just an idiot. I'm such a big fan of 3F, if PJ thought of that kind of setup for future shows of them, I would flip!!!

Hope to read you again soon,

Hey again, monoxyde... Thanks for the warm wishes and your blessing to post at will. I'll see if I can come up with some topics worthy of discussion. At least I know you'll be around here to discuss them with!

My understanding is that the Dogtown and Z-Boys interview was done at his home in Missoula, as I recognize some of the scenery from the photos from the liner notes to The Quiet Table, which I know were shot in Montana. I also think I can see stairs in the background of the Dogtown clip, and I know his place in Seattle is just an apartment. You're right about the Bass Player interviews and photo sessions -- those are definitely Seattle-based.

The house in Missoula was indeed created along with a girlfriend according to what I've read; however, Jeff and that particularly lady broke up long ago, and I don't know how much they really were together in that house. I have a copy of one article in particular from 1996 in which the place is described as his "new house which (he) designed with a former girlfriend." As far as I know, Jeff and Pandora have been together since about 1997, as I believe she's even credited with taking at least one photo in the Yield liner notes. I also get the impression that in that time, Jeff and Pandora have had some "off" periods of varying lengths (based on some allusions he's made in interviews from then until the present), but that it's generally been a steady, serious relationship, and from everything I gather, it's been absolutely "on" non-stop since 2001, as any hints or outright public mentions he's made since then have referred to him being in a relationship with her. My understanding is they're living together right now and the dog seen in the background of that new interview footage is actually hers. I'm pretty sure the hat designer girlfriend was from the Green River era, and also, the woman named Penny referred to in the Ten "Thank-You" section is his mom.

Continuing from the above...

Nice score, getting Vitalogy on vinyl and the autographed used copy of Ten. Did you place an order for the Benaroya live album?

Like you, I missed out on ever seeing Three Fish live (assuming they never reunite again). Sadly, I did not even know of the band's existence until they had already done their 1996 and 1999 stops in my town.

In saying that I prefer PJ's slower numbers, I'm in no way seeking to demean any of their harder-rocking songs and by no means do I dislike any of the "rockers". To branch from what you were saying, I agree, their power as a hard rock band is unmatched, and I also think even their most raucous of numbers has a kind of subtlety and quality to it that very few bands could ever accomplish. And to this day, Ten is still the singular most intense album -- on all levels -- that I've ever encountered.

Hey Sarah,
Yeah, you're right about the Dogtown pix, I got the impression that they were from Seattle because of the high-rise ceilings that I read about in an article, a Bassplayer one again. But it's true, there's no second floor in there. I feel weird to talk about those details. In a sense, maybe because I feel like I'm intruding. But, I'm not, those were all informations, authorized publication by our man. ;) As for the 3F photos though, you may have a different version then mine, the only photo in Missoula in there is one from the kitchen where Richard is sitting in the foreground on the right and Rob, standing in the background. I don't have picture of outside. Could you describe the photo that you're talking about, the scenery in the Quiet Table's liner notes?

And that article that you talk about, "new house which (he) designed with a former girlfriend", what is it? I don't remember reading that one. Could you send it to me or post it?

I haven't heard anyone talk about it anywhere but, remember the pictures from the press conference in Mexico, all the boys, well, the hands that you can see... they wear wedding rings. I wonder why. I know that Ed isn't married, and what about Jeff? Are they married? If not, I wonder why they were wearing those.

Hahahaha!!! God! Yeah, I do feel intrusive. I feel embarassed and I'm almost blushing alone in front of my computer... Well, another thing. Remember Pandora mentionning two cats in her bio for Save the Children? She didn't mention any dog. Also, I haven't seen a lot of photos of her but for what I glanced, she really looks beautiful, and she has that intelligent aura-look about her, looks like a brilliant woman, for the stuff she's involved in as well as her studies, all lead to that.

So Jeff's surrounded by Pennys... You really amaze me Sarah, you know so much! And I thought I knew a lot. I have been reading and collecting PJ-Jeff stuff for a good number of years and I gathered that his father was Allen and his Mom, Doloris; then I read that article when Jeff played basketball last fall in Missoula where his father was interviewed, and he's called George. Go figure, now you're telling me his mother's name is Penny. Makes me wonder about the quality of the information I get...

On another subject, my most intense -rockwise- album is VS. Ten is not my favorite. VS is, then Vitalogy, although I have a special connection to Ten, when that came out, it blew my mind! And no, I haven't ordered Benaroya yet. I never ordered anything from the site in years actually, I'm still missing on MSG actually, I'm not even in the fanclub anymore, that's really sad. But I got my list. I've been ill in the past few years and I'm broke. I buy bit by bit whenever I feel I can starve myself to do so.

Let's go on with the yammering, like you said, I think you found your match in me, hehehe! I too, wouln't want to bore the other readers but no one come here anymore so, I have known 3F from the beggining, although it took me four years to buy their music. What a dummy. I didn't want to go see them on their first tour because I was a PJ fan, not a 3F one. I thought it would be a lousy thing to do, to go see them because Jeff's in the band. that's the reason why I would have gone. I know a lot of people did that and called for PJ songs during some shows, I think it's rude. I didn't want to be one of those. I got the Quiet Table when it came out though, and that's the one album I listened to the most in 2000, Binaural being second and Joseph Arthur, Come To Where I'm From, third. I started looking for the first 3F all over the place, found it on a Dutch website and they never sent it. I finally found it (used and f***ed up, I'm missing a track) (and the Laced single) right under my nose at Cellophane Square in the U-district in Seattle in 2002, how odd. 3F is on the top of the list of the bands I'd take on that desert Island. Speaking of which, nobody ever talks about these, My Only foe and Resonate. I haven't been able to find those lyrics anywhere. It isn't really mentionned anywhere but Jeff is signing these songs and nobody ever talks about it. I think he's got such a great voice, he should sing far more(or always?!?!).

Thank you Sarah for taking the time to write here, sharing all your knowledge, I really really appreciate it. You are totally cool; if you lived any closer, I would ask you to go for a coffee, you are a very interesting person.

Cheers :)

Awe, thanks monoxyde, thats really cool of you,
but don't rush, i'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

As for the Jeff/pandora issue, i don't think they are married, though i did read in an article from last year or something that he palns to spend the next ten years 'settling down and starting a family'can you imagine that-baby jeffs!!!

Awe, i wish him lots of luck, from what i've read Pandora seems like a really cool person (and since my chances with him are thinner than cheap ham-i'm glad he's got a good girl!)

Well, if you wanna read the article i mentioned, heres the link : http://www.missoulian.com/articles/2003/05/30/schools/zschools01.txt

Hi Disco, thanks for the link. And, maybe you would know... did you ever post images here? If so, what did you do? Well, the better thing is obviously for you to upgrade your viewers (Q time or Media Player) and see the real thing, and DO SO! You're missing something. Cheers!

Hey ladies,

Firstly, Disco, the only way I know of being able to post pics on this Board is if they are already posted on the 'Net... Then you'd simply right-click, copy and paste. I'd help with screencaps if I could, but I absolutely don't have the software necessary.

Monoxyde, the photos from within the liner notes to The Quiet Table I'm referring to are mainly the kitchen shot you mentioned and I'm also thinking of that closeup photo of what seems to be the contents of a bulletin board/desk/shelf with the notes and souvenirs on it. With regards to the article mentioning how he designed the house with a now-ex, all I can remember of it right now is that it was a Three Fish newspaper interview. I can't find it online anywhere and my paper copy of it is unfortunately stuffed in a box somewhere at the moment. I'll post it once I can dig it up.

With regards to whether the dog is his or not, I'm thinking it belongs to Pandora because she mentioned a dog named Cookie in her bio and when checking the Lost Dogs back cover artwork, there's a flyer made up for a dog named Cookie with a pic that looks like the dog visible in that video interview. Also within that "'Cookie'' flyer art, there's a reference to someone named Andre being the owner. Without wanting to implicitly say the connection, if you again correlate that with Pandora's Save The Children bio, I think you'll realize another connection there. Again, all this leads me to believe the dog is hers, not his, although if they're living together, I suppose the dog is "theirs" (shared) at this point.

My understanding is that Matt Cameron remains the only bandmember who's married. I certainly recall those Mexico press conference photos, and while some of the guys were wearing rings, I have no idea why Jeff's was on his "married" hand. Perhaps he was trying to fend off groupies since it was their first trip down there! (J/K!) Actually, around the time of the third Boston show on the Riot Act Tour, it seems Jeff began wearing a ring on his right ring finger, which is the same ring that appears in the Mexico pictures. I'm only speculating here, but I'd venture a guess it's some kind of commitment symbol re: his relationship with Pandora. And I have to echo your (Monoxyde's) comments earlier: She really does seem like a wonderful woman in all respects, and I'm lead to believe they have a ton in common. Without trying to sound exceptionally weird, I think it's great they found each other. They seem like an excellent pair.

Continuing on... Monoxyde, I have to say I feel the same way about seeing a side project or a guest appearance by a PJ member without enjoying the main attraction for its own merit. Although buying a ticket would ultimately put money in the artist's pocket, I think it's hugely disrespectful to go to a show if you aren't truly there in support of the headlining act, or if you're just going to gawk at and/or try and meet one of the people they're playing with. Now, if 3F suddenly resumed a touring schedule and I had the chance to go, I would, because I genuinely enjoy them as a band, beyond them being Jeff's side project. But, as a counterexample, the Finn bros. played in my town last night, and in the weeks leading up to the show, I'd seen posters advertising that it would be "Neil and Tim plus Special Guest". I could only imagine the number of folks who bought tickets thinking Ed was gonna be that guest considering his history with them. Turns out that wasn't the case, but even if it had been, I wouldn't have kicked myself for not being there. While I like the Finn brothers' music, they're not an act I would've typically bought a ticket to see, and I don't think I could have justified my presence at the gig if I'd gone just to play "spot the Pearl Jam frontman."

Re: "Resonate" and "My Only Foe", I'd never seen lyrics for them online until The Sky I Scrape finally posted some in 2002. Whenever anyone on a Board ever asked about them, I'd just transcribe the songs myself to the best of my own knowledge/hearing. If I may say so, I think the versions on The Sky I Scrape have some errors -- or at least, they're different in parts than what my ears detect. (I could be the one in the wrong, of course!). I think generally, Jeff does a fine job when he's allowed a more prominent role on vocals -- be it as the lead man or the principle backing vocalist. I really enjoy how his vocals overlap with Robbi's on "My Only Foe"... I think I've mentioned this here before, but for an added treat when listening to that song, I recommend using a vocal-fader effect to take what Robbi's singing out of the mix. It then sounds like Jeff's singing independently, and if you listen closely, you catch tiny, subtle differences in the lyrics Jeff sings versus what Robbi sings.

I promise to discuss JA's 3F songs a little more in the near future. Alas, I've gotta log off for now. Monoxyde, thanks big-time for your kind words.  I feel the same way about you. Incidentally, I've very flattered, as I can't remember the last time anyone called me "ïnteresting" in a positive context!

Cheers, all, and I'lll try and post again in a couple of days.

Hello Sarah, hello all,
100 views of this thread... Sarah, we're not alone as we suspected... :) Good! CRB is ALIVE!!!

So, do you have Benaroya? Like it? I don't have it yet, I'll take care of that over the weekend. Don't you like the cover!

To persue on the topics that we've been talking about, here about the pets in Pandora's bio, I remember only the cats. Maybe is it because I'm a cat lover myself, I remember only that. Somehow, I think that Jeff and Pandora would make a great "John & Yoko" pair, you know, with everything they're involved into, great lessons to get from very beautiful individuals.

I was gone for a week, from last Thursday to Wednesday, to volunteer as stage tech for this music fest I was talking about. I had such a great time! Such beautiful people to work with! Daniel Quinn would find another perfect example of his "theory" (in brackets because it's not so much theory as feasible reality), related in "Beyond Civilization"; a tribe and a high tech one. Such beautiful minds. And I got closer to this extraordinary man, who's ways are so inspiring, the best example to follow. Well, you'd have to have been there. Next year I'll be crew chief, can't wait 'til then, I had a hard time leaving, the kind of thing you don't want to see coming to an end. Well, it's also part of the charm of the festivals, the fact that they do end.

Well, I'm back home and online,

Hey gang, hello monoxyde... Forgive me for not properly welcoming you back online in my last couple of posts...

I don't mean to dig into your personal life, but I have to say I'm a both confused and intrigued by something you said: You mentioned you got closer to a certain someone who's a major inspriration... Now, does this mean you met Jeff at this festival job of yours, or got to see him? I'm probably way off base, but I've gotta admit, that's the first inference that popped into my mind. If so, congrats! And in any case, glad to see you back, and it's great you enjoyed your tech gig so much and were inspired by it on so many levels.

Jeff and Pandora as the next John and Yoko, huh? I can see it... Though does that mean when PJ finally calls it quits the hardcore fan base will place the blame on her? Hehehe... (j/k)

Received Benaroya here, finally, last week, but alas have not had a chance to listen to it. As of right now, its occupying a coveted spot admist my Pearl Jam collection, awaiting its first play. As I mentioned before, I definitely do like that cover art. Always a treat to get a shot of my favourite musician and my favourite musical instrument, namely his electric upright. I see it (the Benaroya art) as kind of the rhythm section's answer to the Ed-and-Mike-focused art of Live On Two Legs, what with the cover shot's emphasis on Jeff and the back cover view of Matt.

Amy/disco, if I haven't mentioned it before, thanks for the link to the interview. I've read it a few times before, but it was definitely one of my favourite pieces to come out of the Riot Act press junket. That interview taught me a bunch of little facts I hadn't known before. Also, it tickles me to think that here he is, Mr. World Famous Rock Star, in the midst of a tour, taking time out to grant an interview to a high school young girl who's not even writing for his old alma mater. Makes me regret not having worked more for the student paper when I was in high school!

Hey beautiful people! Hope life's treating you well! Hi Sarah, believe me I would have mentionned it if the man I was talking about in my last thread was Mr. Ament!!! :) No, the man's name is Tom, two masters in history and co-owner of a wine shop in West Seattle, and director of a non-profit, that makes for an interesting mix, doesn't it? Very intelligent and very inquisitive, a very beautiful mind. The reason for my involvment in the festival is because of the people that volunteer there, that Tom guy is not the only one either, it's like the planets aligned for that group of volunteers to sign up for that gig, a bunch of rarely beautiful people.

Actually, there was this show on my stage, it was a workshop with four bassplayers, an AMAZING show! And I'm a bassplayer if you remember, this workshop was FOR MEEE! Among those four people was Darin Schaffer (http://darinschaffer.clickpoprecords.com/), he's from San Fran, CA, he plays the piccolo bass, an amazing musician. I'm still waiting for him to email me back, I want to get both his CDs, he and those three other bassplayers made me weep!

As for the John and Yoko thing, I didn't mean that they would make music together, I wouldn't want to see the end of PJ. I think that somehow, they could get to go more public with their different implications on the social involvment scene. It is a good motivator, preaching by example, if you know what I mean, they already do that, it's just that it's kept quiet.

I too, finally got Benaroya, it's absolutely beautiful! I hope you'll have some time to listen to it soon. I don't have many bootlegs, so it's the fisrt time I hear Crazy Mary live, that song really does a thing on me.

I was glad to read you again

Hi Monoxyde,

Again, glad your workshop was such an inspiring experience and you got to meet such good people. There was a little part of me, though, that thought you may have been talking about Jeff initially and were just being delightfully cryptic about it!

With regards to the John/Yoko comparison, it was only in jest, but for the record, I've personally never been of the school of thought that Yoko was the cause of the Beatles' demise. In terms of Jeff and Pandora going more public with the work they do, I see your point about doing so, but I can't help but get the impression that they're generally quiet people, personality-wise, and wouldn't really want to "toot their own horn" any more than what naturally comes out since Jeff's a public figure.

Funny you should mention "Crazy Mary" as being a standout track from the Benaroya show. That bodes well for me. It's one of my favourite PJ songs (though I know it's a cover), so it's always a big plus for me when I can grab a copy of a live performance that includes it. Actually, in all honesty, I think the studio version that they perform with Victoria Williams herself on the Sweet Relief compilation just might be the singular most beautiful song they've ever done. Just a great, great tune on so many levels, and if you're into seeking out different live versions of it, there are some really gorgeous performances of it from over the years.

Bringing back an old thread here, but for those who are interested, here's that Three Fish newspaper article I referred to above...

- I'm transcribing this by hand, so any typos are the fault of yours truly -

Three Fish born out of spiritual interest of Pearl Jam bass player

By Gene Stout, The Patriot Ledger, Quincy, Mass. July 5, 1996

The idea for Jeff Ament's new band, Three Fish, took root on a trip to California's Big Sur. Ament, the bassist for Pearl Jam, met singer-instrumentalist Robbi Robb of Tribe After Tribe several years ago when Robb's group opened for the Seattle rock band.

"We'd hung out on a couple of Pearl Jam tours, but we felt like we never got to finish our conversations," Ament said the other day.

During a break in recording Pearl Jam's 1993 album, Vs., Ament suggested the two meet for a four-day weekend in Big Sur. "Every night, we'd lay in these hot tubs and drink chianti," Ament said. "It's a place where Aldous Huxley and Joseph Campbell and Henry Miller hung out."

Ament and Robb share a fascination with ancient religions.

"I grew up in a pretty hard-core Catholic family in Montana. I was an altar boy for years," Ament said. "A lot of the college courses I took were on comparative religion and humanities because I was confused and I didn't feel right about Catholicism. It opened up a whole new world."

Robb, on the other hand, grew up in a Tibetan monastery, where his mother taught. Robb learned to meditate at an early age.

"We've shared these religious experiences and they've been very similar, but at the same time, totally different," Ament said. "He's a really knowledgeable guy as far as religions and so forth. I can hang around and have conversations with him until we're too tired to talk anymore. It's just one of those intense friendships."

Ament invited Robb to come to Seattle to record with him and Richard Stuverud (of Pilot, Lazy Susan, Fastbacks, War Babies, and Bombardiers), as well as auxiliary keyboardist Cary Ecklund. Those sessions led to the formation of Three Fish by Ament, Robb and Stuverud, whose self-titled debut album was released last month on Epic Records. The trio will perform Tuesday at the Lansdowne Playhouse, above Mama Kin, in Boston.

"Over the course of 10 days, we wrote about half of what ended up being on the record," Ament said. "It was so much fun. It was great to make music and not have any pressure. It was very different from Pearl Jam. There weren't any expectations. Plus, I was the guy who was writing most of the music. That was especially fun for me because I was getting out stuff I'd had in my head for a long time."

The band's music was inspired by shared interests in ancient religions, exotic music and world travel.

One thing is apparent: Three Fish is different from anything Ament has done with Pearl Jam. A blend of soft rock, ambient music and Middle Eastern sounds, the album is trippy and meditative. In addition to fretless bass and 12-string guitar, Ament played the djembe, an African drum. The group's first video, "Laced", was directed by Frank Suffert and filmed in Cairo and Istanbul. Ament and his brother, Barry, did the album art, basing their designs on ancient woodcuts.

"We had a lot of drums and percussion instruments in the studio, and though Richard (Stuverud) hadn't played a lot of those instruments before, he did some beautiful stuff," Ament said.

Three Fish was named for a 13th-century Sufi poem written in Arabic and later translated into English. The poem was in one of the many religious books lying around the studio.

"(Robbi) started reading it to himself and I picked up the guitar and started playing this little figure," Ament said. "A week later, we listened to the tape and thought, 'Wow, that's pretty magical.'"

Ament isn't sure what the parable of the Three Fish really means.

"We've come up with all sorts of different ideas on what it's about," he said. "One of the translators thought it was about taking any and all chances for love. Whatever it took to make love happen, you just went for it. I think there's something about that sort of writing that inspired us. Life's short, so make the most out of it."

Ament, Robb and Stuverud plan a short tour before Pearl Jam's new album is released in September. "We'd like it to be intimate and not be a scene. We want people to be able to sit down. It's not going to be a rock 'n' roll show. We have a lot of ideas, so we'll see what happens when we start rehearsing," Ament said.

"Taking on this tour has caused me a little anxiety because I'm not in my safe little Pearl Jam shell," Ament said. "I know Pearl Jam can go out and play shows and really rock. But with this, there's a certain edge. Part of it comes from the fear of falling flat on our faces."

Ament recently became a gossip item while hanging out with pal Dennis Rodman of the Chicago Bulls during the NBA championships. "I didn't want to be perceived as being a Bulls fan. I played hoops down at this gym one night and the guys were calling me a traitor for hanging out with Dennis," he said. "But I'm a Sonics fan and (Dennis) knows it."

When Three Fish finishes its tour in August, Ament plans to return to his new ridgetop home -- equipped with a recording studio and a basketball court -- near Missoula, Mont.

"It's pretty basic. It's not a small house, but it's not a castle either," he said. "One side looks out on Missoula, the other on the Bitterroot Valley."

After a short vacation at his new home, which he designed with his former girlfriend, Ament will rejoin his bandmates in Pearl Jam for the release of the new album. "We're still in the last stages of sequencing and deciding what songs are going to be on it. We recorded few too many. Hopefully, we can get that all nailed down soon," he said.

The band's new drummer, Jack Irons, influenced the sound of the new album. "I think there's definitely a departure and I think Jack had a lot to do with that," Ament said. "I think Jack worked really hard before he came in and had some definite ideas and I think it pushed us into a new area that was totally exciting."

This fall, Pearl Jam plans to perform a series of East Coast shows that were scuttled last year, as well as a return to Europe for the first time in three years. No Boston-area shows are planned.

Ament said the band will have to come up with a new strategy for a larger tour of North America. Pearl Jam canceled a U.S. tour in 1994, and band members aired their differences with Ticketmaster before a House subcommittee hearing in Washington, D.C., after filing a complaint against the ticketing company with the Justice Department. The Department's decision to drop its investigation last year was a major blow to Pearl Jam.

Despite Pearl Jam's long-running dispute with Ticketmaster, Ament said band members' spirits are high. "Even when we weren't making music, everyone was talking to each other and communicating and hanging out, which was something we hadn't done for a couple of years because we were always so busy," Ament said. "I think everyone's itching to play now."

Sarah,
You transcribed this by hand!!! My god! Wow, a million thanks Sarah! And a superb article too! I'm so happy to have read it (and copied it! of course). You know, you've brought me (us on CRBBB) a lot of Jeff/PJ joy! You are an awsome individual. I'll never thank you enough.

I would like to send you the rough (very much so) of the research I've done on Jeff's basses, I don't know if you'd be interested. It's barely formated, I keep it like that because it's still work in progress. It's in MSWord. The thing is that I would need your email address for that and I don't know how to get it without having to post it in a thread. Or do you have an alternative/place where I can send it? Well, first of all, would you be interested? I know you're not a musician and I don't know what it would mean for you, to read about where/when/who of whatever bass. Anyway, tell me what you think!

Cheers

You're most welcome for the transcription job! I had a few spare moments... It was no trouble, really. As you've probably guessed by this point, I'm hugely into articles and interviews, so whenever I can share a transcript or a link, I'm more than happy to do so. In fact, as much as I'm always searching for copies of things myself (For example, that thread of mine out on the Board about the Australian radio cassette...), I think I get even more out of providing the interviews for other people. So again, you're very welcome, and naturally, I've had a blast being able to talk with you (monoxyde)! Thanks for your compliments. Your contributions to this Board have been wonderful!!

I believe this Board has a Private Message feature, so, just drop me a line there if you'd like to discuss anything "less publicly". Truth be told, I'm not comfortable giving out an e-mail address, and also in terms of e-mailing me something with a .doc attached to it,  I've been unable to work with attachments for months since my CPU is in horrible shape. I'd just be asking you to cut 'n' paste things into the body of the e-mail anyhow. Would it be possible for you to start a thread out here on the Board and just paste your information in?  I'm not a musician, but I would certainly be interested in reading your info package on Jeff's basses. I can only imagine how much work you've put into the document, so from that end, it's something I really want to see. Also, I respect the tools he works with, and as such I still think I can draw some kind of insight from reading about them.

Hi Sarah, sorry for your computer. I have been thinking about posting my (yet unedited) work on Jeff's basses here but, it's a document I never thought of editing in .doc since it's just a database (for web publishing, of which I know nothing). Half of the images are about thumnail size and it's already eleven pages long. Of course, the images will need to be big since they are of utmost importance. Plus, there are some basses I still need to research. I guess I've been lazy lately. So, I'll put the whole issue to rest for now and eventually might find a suitable way to post it someplace, yes, maybe even here, in a thread. To tell you the truth, I'm still hopeful as to the website going back online. Such a simple thing! Why isn't it up and running again?!!!

Oh, go check for a message I sent you on this site.
