anybody know who Lew Alcindor is?

i figured he's a basketball player...
i read the lost dogs liner notes... but could anyone fill me in? i'm not too big on american sports... sorry ;)

Hi there,


I'm a big basketball fan myself, so I'll try my best to help you out here, and maybe with other references in the song if you'd like...


You probably know Lew Alcindor better as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the superstar center for the "Showtime" (L.A.) Lakers in the '80s (Magic Johnson's team). However, Kareem didn't become known as Kareem until 1971 when he converted to Islam -- he was born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. -- and he didn't join the Lakers until '75. Before the most famous part of his career with the Lakers, Kareem (then Lew Alcindor) played for the Milwaukee Bucks. His rookie season was 1969-70. Before making it to the NBA, Alcindor was a dominant college player for UCLA.

i've heard of kareem abdul-jabbar before but i just didn't know it was the same person as lew alcindor...


great song, by the way... it's just totally unlike what i expected it to be... it sounds so un-binaural-ish... when i first heard it i thought it might have been from any pre-no code session...


i don't think jeff has let down too many of his fans... but i like what he says in the lost dogs booklet...


"i wondered how many people i might have inadvertently snubbed because i was tired or just unable to speak"


i sometimes wonder about the same thing... luckyly i don't have too many fans... 5'8'' is a long way to fall, too
