Sarah

Hello Sarah,
Thanks for answering my request on the old CRB website. I always went to the message board through the link on the site, never bookmarked the page directly like you did, and so many others!!! I'm happy to see that at least the board is still working. I wrote to Laura twice but had no response. I was in total darkness as to what was happening. I even got a little upset in my last email... Well, I missed the site and the board a lot. Arrhhh! Lame excuse. Big baby me...

I wonder how much money it costs to get the renewal? Just as Laura expresses in her last post, PJ and Jeff are rooting deeper then ever in my heart too, as years go by. If CRB was to go belly up, it would be extremely sad. And selfish me, I would never see my last contribution to the site posted. I've been doing some work on the basses section, altough I know it would interest the bass players among us mostly... Still, I think that the Jeff-heads could contribute more to the site, with Laura being so busy. Couln't we just all contribute? I guess I could post that in a new thread, provided Laura would agree to it, since putting the site back on track also means maintenance...

I read the posts I missed since the "breakdown" and notice that you remained active anyway, I thank you for it, CRB as to stay !!!

Well, I'm happy to be back on the message board and will come often since I have a lot of time for myself lately.

Take care, and thanks again

Oooh, my own thread! *LOL!

Hello monoxyde! So wonderful to see you here again! How have you been? You're very welcome for the reply from the other site. Glad you could make your way back. I'd missed you (and others) here. Oh, and of course I was gonna "stay active" here -- Hehehe! -- I had a few things I thought people might be interested in discussing, but alas, I guess there's been a lack of people to discuss them with! Leave it to me to keep posting "into the void", as it were!

Not to talk behind anyone's back, but I've written Laura a few times as well (although to be absolutely honest, I haven't e-mailed her directly that recently), and hadn't heard back. I honestly don't know what's up.

I really hope that your contributions regarding the basses gets online at some point in some form. As I've mentioned to you before, I'm fairly ignorant of music and instruments from a technical standpoint, but it is interesting to read and learn about, and I'm sure you'd do a great job of conveying things. Personally speaking, I'm in a bit of a similar situation regarding the site, as I've been holding on to a lot of transcripts, pics, etc. that I've wanted to contribute for a long time.

I have a lot of free time to myself as well, actually, so no matter what the state of the site itself, I'm sure you and I can still keep the BBS active! Hehehe!

In all seriousness, it's a pleasure to talk to you again.

Hi again,
You have some other stuff for the website? Great!!! That's super cool. Oh, I wish the site is going to come back. May I ask? Have you ever designed a webpage or maintained one? Do you know anything about that stuff? I've been wanting to get into learning the Macromedia series (Dreamweaver and Flash) for a while now. I guess I'd need to take classes 'cause I can't get it through my skull! I can't stay focussed on it like I do for recording and othe music related sorfware. Dunno why.

As for the basses things I've come up with (research) is some very interesting info and images on rare instruments he's played with and added quite a good number of instruments that aren't on the site. Plus, some more info on some of them that are already posted. I'm an ax lover. You know, each of them have their own voices. Unlike a guitar player I used to play with who says "it's just a plank"!

And Jeff, as I said before is THE ALL MIGHTY KING OF TONE, so I invariably got really interested in exploring it. Most change tone with amps, he changes instrument. Although he does and has been trying a lot of stuff in his career, his basses exploration go far beyond the average (professional) bassplayer, unlike his amps explorations. Now he just keeps at the vintage and classic.

Lastly, about keeping the BBS active, I'm not word shy as you probably noticed already! Sometimes I wonder, maybe I bore people to death with my lengthy messages! And thanks to you for posting and sharing so much of your findings and mostly, your brilliant insights. Long live!

Hi!

What I have (potentially) for the website is probably not all that interesting in comparison to what you seem to have dug up about the basses. While I admit to having "researched" in the sense of physically trying to track copies of things down and so forth, what I have to offer isn't particularly analytical or whatnot. I LOVE reading and listening to interviews, and as my past contributions to the old angelfire site probably showed, my "niche" was mainly in contributing things to the Articles Archive. For instance, the thread below that has Jeff's comments on Entwistle is a piece I probably would have submmitted for the site. Otherwise, if I find some pics of JA that I haven't seen posted, I try and pass them along as well. I try and help in what little way I can. There was also an idea that I'd touched upon briefly here on this Board many moons ago regarding the possible creation of a section detailing Jeff's musical influences and favourite artists. That's something I would also like to maybe have a hand in as well (with Laura's blessing, of course).

My own web design skills are massively limited, although I have a shred of experience with Dreamweaver, having used it for a school course a couple of years ago. I've never designed a webpage or maintained one, but I've flirted with the idea of doing so, to some extent, someday.

Now, I again fully admit to being ignorant about the technical side of music, but even I know there's NO WAY a guitar is "just a plank"! And I agree, each of them have their own voices. Way back when I first started to seriously listen to music, I always (stupidly) assumed a musician owned one guitar, or one bass, etc. It wasn't until I really became interested in learning about the people behind the songs that meant so much to me, and the creation of said songs that I understood "why" one composition requires a certain instrument versus another or what each individual make or model could bring to a song that no other could.

Brilliant insights?! Whoa! *LOL!! I'm flattered, but I'd never call anything I've ever said here brilliant!

Well, as you can tell by the amount I seem to write each time out, I certainly don't mind lengthy messages at all. I think it's fair to say I can be a little uh, "overly verbose"! I love the discussion, and what you have to say doesn't bore me in the least! I enjoy being able to have actual back-and-forth, intelligent conversation on a message board, particularly when the topic at hand is a mutual favourite musician!

Ooooo! I dunno?!?!?! Instruments being more interesting then WORDS? I don't think so. Hehehe! I love reading articles and interviews more then I like to read or write about (his) intruments... :) As for myself, my "collection" totals only 30 written documents. It includes some short quotes and other notes. Not a lot. I unfortunately haven't been very diligent in collecting them. I kept only what I thought was most interesting to me on the spur of the moment.

I've been more assiduous at putting dates and places on photos I have been collecting though. PJ have been around for long enough now that we find A LOT of images, but they're "all over the place", 99% of the time, no such info is provided with them. I'm interested in making a time (and place) line with them. Same with the basses images, ...as much as I can.

And it's a superb idea that you have to make a section on his inspirations; I remember you mentionning it; books he's mentionned could be listed in there too, right?

I remember reading Charles Shulz writing about the difference between talking and having a conversation. When talking, the participation of an other is not mandatory, like kids talk, he says. They want to be listened to, and are not really interested in listening to what the other might say. A kid won't ask you questions about yourself for exemple: "How was the day?" Or "What did you like about that movie?" I guess it goes not only for kids but for a lot of "grown-ups" too!!! In a conversation, the dynamic is different, it won't happen unless two (or more) people have the interested participation of one another. Why am I saying this? Just to add to the reasons why I, like you, have the tendency to type more then our fair share... :) Conversation is goooood! So much learning happens then.

Can't wait to see the stuff you want to contribute to CRB! I hope it'll be soon.
