Thanks to Sarah, I'm back.. I do have some news - some good and some annoying but I do need your thoughts.
After much thinking, I have decided to come back to CRB and put it back in cyber space. The reasons I left it were much to do with feeling as though there was plenty of information out there already, people sending me the most freakish and obsessive emails - convinced i was jeff himself or someone close to him, and feeling basically pure boredom. Not that I was ever bored of the music.. just bored of the internet.
Now with new PC in tow, I've decided to start work on it. However, cloudsrollby.com has been purchased by a company and I'm not going to buy it off them! So, I need to change the name, unless I use cloudsrollby.co.uk.. which is a possibility. I've used CRB since 1999 and although I don't mind the change, I was wondering what you think? If I go for another name have any of you got anything in mind?
I can't promise how quick this will be completed as I have a busy life, but I'll do my best!
good to see you're back... i could have sent you the link to your own message board any time, by the way
i don't know anything about the technical aspects of web pages, so i can't really be of any help... i think cloudsrollby.co.uk would be a good idea cos i guess that people feel kinda attached to the name... but i really don't know i don't care what it's called as long as it's up and running again... that would be great... i don't have any clever name suggestions at the moment but i'll think of something... DON'T use anything Sweet Lew related, please
just take your time... people were able to live without the site for quite some time now so there's no need to rush things... the synergy bbs is still down and no one knows for how long... i didn't spend my time there excessively but i thought i'd miss a lot of pj information but, in fact, life goes on as always and i get more things done with less distraction... ... what was my point again?... ah, yeah, do whatever feels right to you by means of investing time, love and money...
ok, i just came up with some names... most of them are rather stupid but they're all based on jeff's lyrics...
Hello Laura, Very nice to have you back! Been a long time! I hope you are well and have been during the time we didn't hear about you.
As it is expected, the CRB board is not very active. One, because so many lost the link when the site was taken off the web as it happened to me and you, (I went on the old site to inquire about (new) CRB being down and Sarah, one of the oldest members came to my "rescue", and sent me the link to this here board). And of course, the second reason has to do with the fact that PJ and Jeff aren't under the spot light right now, therefore, there isn't much going on, as you well know. Still waiting for "Montana"!!!!
Although I am forced to admit and agree that PJ info is all over the place, CRB ends up not being such a necessity for that specific matter. But as for myself, I do believe that a site dedicated to Jeff in particular (or Mike, or Stone, or Ed and whoever for that matter) is important. The fans of a particular artist will be looking into specificities about him/her in a different way then what general (band) coverage can offer. And I think that's where a site like Given to Wail (Mike) for example and CRB can come to be utmostly interesting. So, of course, I support your present endeavor totally, i.e. putting back CRB on the web.
As for a change of name, of course CRB should be a priority, but again, I don't know. Other lyrics could be used to, I think. "Brother" since there is a cute story behind it, although I'm sure Jeff didn't think that event was that cute! Again, this name might already be used. "Nothing as it Seems"? Synapses flashing slow? monkey driven? (one) uninvited chromose? (a) blanket like the ozone? whisper through a megaphone would sound cool given it's a web site name we're talking about, tell me lies? not my enemy... uh, dunno, other side? resonate... I really like Psycosmic's idea, "place in the clouds"! If only because of the word clouds that would be carried on. "Soap makes you taller" is hilarious!!!! :) (you have good ideas Psycosmic!! I like all that you came up with)
Thank you very much for your work Laura, welcome back!
Glad you could make it back here and are thinking of starting up the site again! We've tried to keep things going here on the Board in your absence/since the site's been down, so with that in mind, if you feel you can't get things online in website form all that frequently, there's still going to be a group of us here who'll be adding new info and contributing things out here on the Board. I think it's fair to say we've all definitely missed the site and would love for it to come back, but please note that it doesn't necessarily have to be a "one-woman show", if you know what I mean. I think those of us who visit the Board are people who would've sent you items for the site anyhow, so we can just post things here if there's no time or place for it on the actual website. If you need our help, just ask! I don't know how many of the old posts you've read, but some of us were thinking of what we might be able to contribute, and there's also a little web account where we've currently "housed" a couple of things we would have otherwise sent to the site.
In terms of a new name... Well, I think I'm always going to be attached to Clouds Roll By as a title, to be honest, out of familiarity/sentimentality, but I do like psycosmic's idea of maybe picking another one of Jeff's lyrical phrasings. Also, if I may make a further suggestion, perhaps if the new site divides things up into sections the way the other one(s) did, each section could be given a title based off of Jeff's lyrics. For example, I think "Angels in the dirt" would be a good lead-in to the fan/community section with this Board and maybe the old art and "fan encounters"/stories.
Anyways, it's great catching up with you again! Thanks for everything!
I'm back! After a few months of trying to do 1 million different things.
The good news is that the domain has been bought and the site is in progress. I hope it'll all be up and running soon. I got the domain free in the end, but it is co.uk... it was free, so I don't mind!
